Chester South and Eddisbury MP Aphra Brandreth has been promoted to Shadow Minister for Nature, saying she wants to put Cheshire’s countryside, wildlife and biodiversity at the heart of her new role.
The promotion comes as part of a reshuffle of the Conservative frontbench and will see Aphra take on responsibility for nature and biodiversity within the Shadow Defra team.
The reshuffle also saw Tom Tugendhat MP appointed Shadow Foreign Secretary, while a new Conservative Economic Unit was established, led by Andrew Griffith MP. Andrew Griffith recently visited Cheshire at Aphra’s invitation, meeting local business owners to hear about the opportunities and challenges facing the area.
Aphra said her new role would allow her to champion the natural environment across Chester South and Eddisbury, while bringing local concerns into the national debate.
She has previously met with organisations including Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Chester Sustainability Forum and said she looks forward to building on those relationships.
Aphra Brandreth MP said:
“I’m delighted to have been promoted to Shadow Minister for Nature. It’s a really interesting brief, and one I’m particularly excited about given how much amazing nature we have in and around [NEWS AREA – eg. for Nantwich News it’d say: Audlem, Wrenbury, Bunbury, and Wybunbury.]
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have beautiful countryside, ancient trees and a huge variety of wildlife and biodiversity on our doorstep. There is so much to value and protect.
“I want to use the opportunity to champion the fantastic nature we have here in Chester South and Eddisbury, while also playing my part in protecting and enhancing our natural environment right across the UK.”
