Kyiv was expected to fall within days. It did not.
Ukraine has shown extraordinary courage and perseverance, continuing to fight for its freedom and its future.Thousands of lives have been lost. Towns, cities and villages have been devastated. Families torn apart. Communities shattered.
Russia’s campaign has brought terror and atrocities against the Ukrainian people, including the abduction of thousands of children taken into Russia. Those crimes must never be forgotten, nor go unanswered.
Ukraine is fighting not only for its own sovereignty, but for the principles of freedom and democracy that underpin our own security.
