Aphra unveiling the Wrenbury Defibrillator

Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury, has recently joined local community leaders and volunteers at the unveiling of a defibrillator at Wrenbury Village Hall.

After months of fundraising, Wrenbury has secured a new defibrillator at the Village Hall. Local community groups Wrenbury Village Club, Wrenbury and District Model Railway Club, Wrenbury Village Hall Trust and Wrenbury Parish Council, supported by local residents, raised the funds necessary for a defibrillator to be located at the heart of the village. While it is of course hoped the defibrillator will never be used, having a defibrillator nearby and accessible should an individual require it can make a significant difference to the chances of survival.

There are around 30,000 sudden cardiac arrests outside hospital in the UK each year, with a survival rate of less than one in ten. Using a defibrillator within three minutes of a cardiac arrest can improve a person’s chance of survival by as much as 70 per cent.

This is an important addition to the local area and has received the widespread support of Wrenbury residents.

Following the unveiling, Aphra Brandreth MP explained:

“It is great to be in Wrenbury alongside the team of volunteers from the local community who have campaigned for this life-saving device. Today’s celebration is the culmination of hard work and I would like to thank all who have been involved and have donated to this cause. Defibrillators can make all the difference when someone has suffered a cardiac arrest and we need better provision of them alongside people trained with cardiopulmonary resuscitation to give patients the best chance of survival.

“Well done once again to all involved and it has been a pleasure and an honour to be here today to celebrate Wrenbury’s community’.
