Volunteering at the Malpas Community kitchen

This week I helped out at the Malpas community kitchen. It is run by a fantastic team of volunteers with Cllr Rachel Williams cooking a delicious hot meal every Wednesday. This is a wonderful community initiative bringing people together. It was a pleasure to help out and to speak with guests and volunteers.

Post Office Opening Hours in Malpas

Many local residents in Malpas are concerned about the reduction in opening hours of the community post office. I stopped by the Nisa Local shop to speak to the manager about the issue that residents have raised. He set out the challenges that they are facing with the cost of maintaining the necessary staffing at certain times for the service. We discussed the possibility of re-instating the full opening hours, and the possibility that the reduction in hours may be temporary as Nisa look to diversify their offering with other parcel delivery networks. Nisa are planning to meet with the Parish council to address questions.

Listening to the issues that matter to residents

As usual, I’ve been speaking with residents on the doorstep across the constituency this week, I’ve been out in No Man’s Heath, Tattenhall and Christleton. I’ve continued to meet with local businesses too, this week I joined Cllr Adrian Wadelove at the Lost Barn cafe and farm store in Tilston to meet the owner and discuss the challenges and opportunities for businesses across Chester South & Eddisbury. As well as a great farm shop selling local produce, they roast their own coffee which is award winning and delicious.

On Saturday I met with Cllr Mike Jones to discuss issues in his ward of Tattenhall. We discussed the impact that flooding has had on local businesses including the Lockgate Coffee House. Cllr Jones also updated me on the campaign to re-open Beeston Castle and Tarporley station which he has been supporting.

And finally…

Christmas is officially getting started, there are so many wonderful events across Chester South and Eddisbury. I popped into the Christmas Craft Fair at the Rose Farm Shop in Utkinton this week. I’m looking forward to attending lots of our community Christmas events over the coming weeks.
