Aphra with Cllr Daniels and the Head Master at the kings school

This week Aphra Brandreth and Cllr Razia Daniels met with the Head Master at The King’s School. They were able to congratulate the Head on recently being awarded North West Independent Secondary School of the Year. The school is thriving, and whilst already around 10 percent of the senior school are on bursary places, the school are working towards achieving 100 extra bursaries by 2041 as part of their 500th anniversary challenge.

During the meeting they discussed the potential implications of Labour’s proposal to impose VAT on school fees, which will clearly impact a number of local families. They also discussed issues with speeding along the Wrexham Road, and the measures that the school is taking to encourage pupils to be considerate when parking in surrounding residential roads.

Aphra said: "It was fantastic to look around the facilities at King's and to speak with their Head Teacher who is leading an extremely successful secondary school and clearly has huge passion and determination to continue to deliver outstanding education. It was great to hear about everything the school has achieved and their continued ambitions to be at the heart of the community."
