Chester South and Eddisbury MP, Aphra Brandreth pressed the Prime Minister for assurances that intelligence cooperation between the UK and Israel remains strong, warning that such partnerships are vital to keeping Britain safe in the face of ongoing threats from Iran.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Aphra highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing in protecting the UK and its allies. She raised concerns following recent tensions in the UK's relationship with Israel and asked the Prime Minister to provide a clear assurance that cooperation on intelligence and security continues in full.
Aphra warned that Iran continues to pose a serious threat to regional stability and the security interests of the UK and its allies, making close cooperation with trusted partners more important than ever.
In response, the Government stated that the UK continues to cooperate with Israel on intelligence and security matters. However, Aphra said the answer did not provide the clear assurance she had sought.
Aphra Brandreth MP said:
“Iran poses a grave threat to the British people and our allies. Israel is a vital intelligence partner in countering that threat.
“I asked the Prime Minister to confirm that intelligence cooperation remains fully intact. He failed to directly answer my question.
“I will keep pressing for clarity and ensure vital partnerships that protect Britain are not put at risk.”
Aphra will continue to hold the Government to account on matters of national security and Britain's international partnerships.
