Aphra Brandreth, MP for Chester South & Eddisbury, is leading the local campaign to save Kelsall Post Office. As part of this, she has met with senior Post Office representatives to discuss the planned closure and push for a long-term solution.
The Kelsall branch is due to close on 4 September, following the Co-op’s decision to end its franchise agreement with the Post Office.
What’s the current situation?
The Post Office is actively seeking a new operator for the branch and has publicly advertised the opportunity. While there has been some early interest, no formal applications have been received to date — and crucially, no one with suitable premises has yet come forward.
Aphra encourages anyone who may be able to help, whether individuals, local businesses, or community groups, to find out about what the Post Office are looking for here.
What services will remain?
From 5 September, the Post Office has confirmed the Co-op will offer a Drop & Collect service. This will include:
Making bill payments
Sending prepaid parcels
Returning and collecting online orders
Next steps
The Post Office has reaffirmed its commitment to finding a long-term solution for Kelsall. However, the longer the branch remains closed, the harder it becomes to reopen.
If you haven’t already, please add your name to the petition below. This will help Aphra build the case to Save Kelsall Post Office and show the strength of feeling locally.
