Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury, has attended events to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Weekend.

Aphra Brandreth MP has visited Overleigh Cemetery in Handbridge along with a team from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) to hear about the work they do to keep the gravestones of fallen soldiers well-kept. The cemetery has soldiers from a range of various regiments due to the military hospital in Chester used during the First World War. The MP also laid a wreath at the cemetery in remembrance of those who were buried there.

Aphra Brandreth MP also attended Remembrance Sunday events in Tarporley including a service at St. Helen's Church. The event included readings from local dignitaries, a Blessing and sermon, and an Act of Remembrance led by the MP. She later laid a wreath at the memorial in the church gardens.

The Member of Parliament said:

"It has been an honour to pay my respects to our fallen heroes over the course of this weekend. The sacrifice of our servicemen and women must never be forgotten and it is thanks to the efforts of the Royal British Legion and organisations like the Commonwealth War Graves Commission that their memory is honoured in such a fitting manner.

"This was my first Remembrance Weekend as a Member of Parliament and I am acutely aware that had it not been for the sacrifice of our Armed Forces, I would not have the privilege of serving in my role today."
